39% increase in insurance premiums in a Blue state? Why do I blame the C0ns?

Is it legal in the state of Nevada to increase someone’s health insurance premiums without notice?

My job offers a fairly crappy health plan for too much money and I have yet to use it — and of course now, the icing on the cake is the fact that they increased our premiums without any sort of notification. How is this legal? What if I had purchased this insurance knowing it was the max I could afford (luckily I’m not in that situation but some of my coworkers are) and all of a sudden they take out more money from my paycheck than last month which put me over my monthly allowance without being able to opt out? Are we supposed to just sit and watch our paychecks shrink while the insurance company drains our funds? What if they raise it again? Is there anything I can do? The insurance company btw is Aetna.
Well we already know we’re being laid off but in my case for the better. It is a dead end job and I definitely need to do something catered to my skills and talents instead of rotting in that craphole . Anyway, none of the management can explain it so either they are lying or it is the insurance company’s doing.

Let’s say that you caused a huge dent to your own car by backing into a metal post. If you file a claim with the insurance company to repair the dent, will the premiums increase? If so, will that “loss” stick with you, causing premiums to be high over the next few years?

O.K. So maybe I am out of the loop on this but why is there such a sharp increase in the inusurance premiums and deductables for lesser coverage? We just had our anuall board meeting to discuss insurance for open enrollment and I’m not too happy or knowlagable about the changes. So here’s my stance. I’ve been on the HMO here at my job for a year now and now they are completely removing it and offerng to replace it automaticly to a POS plan. I looked at what I have now and what I will have in January and it’s ridiculously less coverage. On top of all the it’s a $15 increase just from the $20 I was paying to see my primary Doctor. A $10 increase to see a specialist and a $150 increase to go to the emergency room! This is insane. I need the coverage because I am Ill a lot but WHY is it going up so much to cover less?
Agreed. What happened to we the people for the people? I don’t see why it is so hard to take care of our own.
